Spinning – a fun journey so far.

This is taken from a post I made on my personal Instagram account and wanted to capture it here.

The gym classes which I love and which my body relates to are those that give a cardio blast and keep it interesting such as high intensity interval training (HIIT) and, lift and row classes, which last for circa 30 to 45 minutes. I am not one who enjoys just one exercise or spending hours in the gym.

That is why I was quite reticent about going to a spin class plus I’m not a social bike rider.

But I am very glad I tried it as love it and now am slightly obsessed with spin since starting my spin class journey whilst on gardening leave over the past few months. For those unsure of what gardening leave is…it is defined in Wikipedia as follows: “Garden leave describes the practice whereby an employee leaving a job – having resigned (in my case) or otherwise had their employment terminated – is instructed to stay away from work during the notice period, while still remaining on the payroll

Don’t know why, but was nervous giving it a go for the first time – but made the leap at @corecollective where the amazing teachers @heloisenangle @kirbyanne @movewithtara @india_bailey created such great energy alongside proper tunes that I started going more often.

For those who don’t know, @corecollective is an amazing gym in Kensington, London- I feel happy when I walk in there- it has great vibes and one of the best cafes in London. Normally I take their cardio, and lift and row classes. Look forward to seeing the 2 new ones opening soon.

As I follow a number of gyms and PT trainers, I saw some posts on the instagram timeline from @another_spacelondon. It shows those instagram algorithms work.

My first class at @another_spacelondon was a 6.30am Monday morning spin class with @olivia_fit_ldn. The class was tough but after sweating up a storm I left starting the week on a high. Loved Olivia’s authenticity and passion and I started the week on a high.

As a side note from spinning Olivia is doing some amazing work heightening awareness and education on Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and on an often taboo subject: menstruation.

For a long while I had seen posts by the @theleanlawyer about classes at @psyclelondon by @marion_pearce – who works in a similar industry to me handling complex transactions but finds the time to teach classes – her energy was ridiculous ( sweated buckets).  I bounced out of the gym with a refocused mindset. Have always wanted to try the Shoreditch branch of @psyclelondon so signed up for a class by @olivedelbalzo – oh my word- was so fast – these old legs of mine were crying happy tears at the end – I definitely left on a high.

In between trying all these classes I read about the new @1rebeluk studio in Victoria which seats circa 85 riders.  Oh my word- it’s like a nightclub – serious music system, lasers, video effects- it gives a real buzz. Been lucky with some fantastic teachers there @sarahfldn @gingerfitnessldn & @joknow .

Following @sarahfldn on Instagram is very inspiring. She posts some very frank thoughts and comments and often we can all learn from these.

I absolutely love my spin / cycle/ ride sessions – all the studios and teachers have their own styles and ability to get you energised. The young wipper snappers on the bikes next to me go so fast I feel like a tortoise but am improving. The days of a six pack and chiseled statue look are long gone ( not sure I ever had that )and certainly not on my mind/. Mentally these classes are so rewarding and re-invigorating.

I highly recommend you all give it a go if you haven’t already.
